The Common merganser (Mergus merganser) belongs to the genus of the sawyer and the family of the ducks (Anatidae). They feed mainly on small fish, which they hunt in groups. It is an impressive sight to see many of these birds working together on the water, cornering schools of fish in front of them.

But they also hunt in pairs, as the beautiful series of photographs taken on the Baltic Sea coast of Bornholm shows. While we were shooting with the Nikon D300 in Lofoten, the new Nikon Z9 in combination with the Nikkor Z 400 mm f/4.5 VR was already being used on Bornholm.
