The most famous Bhutanese monastery in Bhutan, the Taktsang Monastery (short for Paro Taktsang Palphug Monastery) is located in the Paro valley at an altitude of 3120 meters. It is also called the Tiger's Nest Monastery because it "hangs" like a nest on a steep rock about 700 meters above the floor of the Paro Valley in Bhutan. On the other hand, there are several legends that explain this name, e.g. the story of Yeshe Tsogyal, who turned into a tiger and carried her teacher Padmasambhava from Tibet to the Taktshang Caves, where he completed the eighth incarnation.

The monastery was built in 1692 to honor Guru Rinpoche - one of the most famous Buddhas in Buddhist history. The legend about Guru Rinpoche with the Taktsang monastery is also magical and astonishing, as is the location of the monastery. Many Buddhists make pilgrimages to Taktsang Monastery, which has become the holiest and most respected Buddhist temple in Bhutan. We left early in the morning to visit the monastery, which can only be reached on foot. At this altitude, a good physical condition but also a head for heights is the prerequisite for a fantastic and spiritual experience.
