Moscow February 1991 before the August Putsch: The disintegration of the Soviet Union lingered over several years of disintegration of the federal political structures of the USSR, and with the independence of the 15 Soviet Union republics between 11 March 1990 and 25 December 1991 led to a new beginning of Russia. Before the failed August Putsch in Moscow in 1991, we were traveling between Leningrad (until September 1991, then St. Petersburg) and Moscow, seeing the unrest on the faces of people. After August 1991, the activities of the hitherto single ruling CPSU in the area of the RSFSR (Russian Socialist Federal Soviet Republic) were finally banned.

There was no spirit of optimism, but rather the concern for the principle of "getting worse" - so that prevailed in the well-known department store "Gum" a rather quiet mood. The GUM building is located in the heart of Moscow on the Red Square, opposite the Lenin Mausoleum and the Kremlin.
