Quetzal - bird of the gods
The Quetzal belongs to the genus of trogons, of which we were able to photograph yet another species, the mountain trogon, in Panama.
Country
The Resplendent Quetzal (Pharomachrus mocinno) is considered one of the most magnificent birds in the world and a symbol of freedom and beauty in Central America. With its emerald-green plumage, scarlet-red chest, and the impressive long tail feathers of the males, it is a truly unique sight. The Quetzal inhabits the cloud forests of Central America, particularly in Guatemala and Costa Rica, and feeds on fruits, especially those of laurel trees. Due to its cultural significance to the Maya and its threatened habitats, the Quetzal is important not only to birdwatchers but also to conservationists.
