The famous Antwerp train station, built in 1905, is affectionately called the “Railway Cathedral” by Belgians. The historic building with its pompous entrance hall, which has been a listed building since 1975, is one of the most beautiful buildings in the city.

The station has been voted one of the most beautiful train stations in the world several times, including by Newsweek, Mashable and Telegraph. It is also often used as a backdrop for feature films due to its monumental construction.

It has been thoroughly renovated since 1986. Between 2000 and 2009, the capacity of the railway hall was doubled, including the addition of platforms on two underground levels. Previously just a terminal station, trains can now pass through thanks to this railway tunnel between the station and the north of the city.
