Cool photo spots at the "blue hour"

In every major city there are special places from which special photos can be taken. We visited some of these well-known photo spots in Hambug. Known as highly photogenic is e.g. the castle in the warehouse district.

The blue hour is ideal for photographs, since the light sources around the motif shine predominantly orange, which gives a very nice color contrast to the increasingly dark blue of the sky. However, you only have a small time window of maybe 15 minutes, so you have to plan in advance the day from which location the most beautiful pictures could be taken. Then you have to be there in time, because at such spots you are not alone at the blue hour.

The loud music of the excursion boats circling the castle was surprising (see video). With long exposure, however, this pulls beautiful colorful stripes of the boat lamps over the water surface. With the rapidly growing dynamic range of current sensors in high-quality cameras, it is increasingly rare that exposure series with multiple photos are required in order to create HDR* images that show structures in both dark and light areas. However, suitable presets of appropriate software can be used to generate images from the photos with different exposures, which give the scenery a special look. We have added some images created in this way to this post.

Of course, night shots of Hamburg's landing bridges from the other bank of the Elbe are just as important as shots of the "Elphi", as the Hamburgers call their esteemed and impressive Elbphilharmonie.
