The yellow-eyed penguin (Megadyptes antipodes) is a penguin that is only found in southern New Zealand, the Auckland Islands and Campbell Island. It is the only recent representative of its genus. No subspecies are distinguished. The yellow-eyed penguin, along with the Galápagos penguin and the thick-billed penguin, is one of the rarest penguin species. In Omaru, guided tours to nesting sites are offered, with strict care not to disturb the penguins.
