Bern is one of the most beautiful cities in Switzerland and was built around a hill surrounded by six kilometers of arcades with many small shops. This ensemble is surrounded by the Aare, whose course here is reminiscent of the Saar and Ardeche loops. From the Lorraine Bridge, to which two impressive sculptures provide access, you can take photos of the first impressive views of the city. From here, narrow steps lead down to the Blood Tower, through which the river path leads. A few kilometers from this point you reach Bärenplatz, where you can not only see brown bears, but also a beautiful view of the Nydegg Bridge provides the next photo opportunity. The bridge connects the area of the Nydegg Church in the old town of Bern with the opposite bank of the Aare at the Bärengraben. A road leads from here to the Rosengarten, from where you can see more beautiful views of Bern.

After a stroll through the many arcades, you will reach the Dutch Tower, which a Swiss friend describes as follows: "The tower was originally part of the third city wall. Open on the inside. Later it was converted into a residential building and even later the half-timbered house was built on top of it. Today you can rent it for events or similar. The tower is called that because many returning mercenaries who fought for the Dutch in the 80 Years' War of Independence had a bad habit, namely smoking pipes. Smoking was forbidden in Bern at the time. So they founded a club with a bar on the tower where they could smoke undisturbed."

You can see a lot of Bern on this tour, but a longer stay is recommended.
