Singapore – The Lion City Transformed

After visiting Singapore in 1984 and again in 2003, we were excited to see how this impressive city had changed. Naturally, we had to revisit some of the photo spots from back then — and it was amazing to witness how many skyscrapers now rise where once things felt "small-scale."

You can explore our photo collection from earlier visits here:

Strolling Along the Kallang Basin

A particularly scenic walk begins at Nicoll Highway MRT station on the Circle Line. Following the Kallang Basin, it doesn’t take long before the futuristic Gardens by the Bay come into view across the water.

These enormous greenhouses showcase floral wonders from across the globe — depending on the season. During our visit, we admired the delicate beauty of Japanese cherry blossoms in full bloom — right in the middle of the tropics, inside a high-tech dome that felt almost otherworldly.

Light Shows Beneath the Supertrees

Right next to the domes, the towering Supertrees dominate the scene — enormous artificial trees that become a stage at night: an impressive light and music show, synchronized to classical and popular compositions, draws crowds of locals and tourists alike.

Winding pathways lead through the park beneath the Supertrees. Along the way, you’ll encounter oversized metal sculptures of local wildlife — like a striking kingfisher — that highlight the region's biodiversity.

Marina Bay Sands & The Merlion

Soon, the striking silhouette of the Marina Bay Sands appears on the skyline — a bold piece of architecture visible from afar. And of course, no visit to Singapore would be complete without seeing the Merlion, the city’s iconic half-lion, half-fish statue — symbolizing strength and origin.

Hidden Gem: Fort Canning Hill

Less known but truly worth the visit is Fort Canning Hill. Lush, tropical trails lead through botanical beauty, offering peaceful moments amidst the urban buzz. A standout feature is the Tree Tunnel — a round staircase leading to an upward view of a majestic tree canopy.

Capturing the perfect photo here, however, may require some patience. Thanks to social media, the spot has become wildly popular, and people love to pose just right — sometimes taking their time to get that perfect angle.

Colors of the Malay Quarter

In contrast to Singapore’s modern skyline, the Malay Quarter offers vivid colors, murals, and expressive street art. It’s a place where tradition, creativity, and community come alive — inviting visitors to stroll, pause, and soak in the atmosphere.
