Stockholm’s subway, often referred to as the “longest art gallery in the world,” is an extraordinary cultural experience. Each station has its own artistic identity, featuring paintings, sculptures, and installations that reflect Sweden’s history, culture, and creativity. Particularly striking are the painted stations, where natural rock formations are transformed into stunning artworks. The photo in this NFT showcases one of the colorful and imaginative designs that make Stockholm’s subway a unique urban masterpiece. This NFT captures the blend of functionality and creativity that makes Stockholm’s subway a highlight for locals and visitors alike.
The starting signal was given in 1957 with the T-Centralen competition, in which the first station was artistically designed. Works of art by around 150 artists can now be seen at 90 of the 100 stations. At seven stations, the exhibits are changed four times a year. We spent some time in the subway and found many interesting subjects. We created the ceiling installation shown here using the colorkey process.
