Close to the Czech border lies the Rauschenbach Dam in Saxony, nestled within a serene winter landscape. The recent low temperatures have already frozen the water, allowing visitors to cautiously test the ice’s strength along the edges.
Particularly mesmerizing are the shadows of leafless trees cast upon the smooth, glittering snow surface. The stark contrasts and forms create an almost graphical beauty, which we captured in a black-and-white photograph. The interplay of light and shadow amplifies the aesthetic charm of this wintry wonder, showcasing how stunning simplicity in nature can be.
Nearby, you’ll find a unique attraction: the Cämmerswalde Aircraft Museum, rich in history and stories. During the GDR era, an Ilyushin Il-14P passenger plane from the 1950s had to make an emergency landing in the area. Instead of being removed, the plane was placed here in 1973, serving as a guesthouse and tourist attraction. Today, it forms the centerpiece of a fascinating collection that also includes a MiG-21, a fighter jet from the GDR’s air force, and a Mil Mi-2 helicopter. Visitors can explore the interior of the Ilyushin and gain nostalgic insights into the aviation history of the GDR.
The privately operated museum, officially recognized in 2001, also features a beer garden, a playground, and a park railway, making it a perfect destination for families. For both nature and technology enthusiasts, the museum and the Rauschenbach Dam offer a harmonious blend of experiences, especially during winter.
The Rauschenbach Dam is not just a technical marvel but also a place of peace and inspiration – especially in winter, when the landscape is covered in a sparkling blanket of snow.
